With the Scoggins Creek Fire approaching full containment, Washington County officials plan to re-open Scoggins Valley Park at Hagg Lake at dawn Wednesday, September 24. The park had been closed since September 19 due to the Scoggins Creek Fire that had engulfed just over 200 acres of privately owned forest land. State officials plan to monitor conditions frequently throughout the remainder of fire season.

Effective today all backyard and agricultural burning in the Gaston Fire District is banned.
Warming & cooking fires will be considered on a case by case and day to day basis.
Citizens must call daily to check that this type of burning is still allowed for that particular day. An initial inspection is required by GRFD personnel prior to allowing these types of outdoor fires. The Gaston Rural Fire District is moving its Board of Directors Meetings from the first Monday of the month to the second Monday effective July 1st. As such, our July Board Meeting will be held on the 14th of this month starting at 6:00 pm at the fire station, 102 E. Main St. These meetings are open to the public.
